Henry battles hard for Knockhill top four
Rising star Henry Joslyn remains well placed in the Wera Tools F4 British Championship certified by the FIA standings despite a tough first visit to Knockhill.
Henry faced a challenge going into the weekend having been unable to take part in testing the Scottish circuit earlier in the year due to exams - putting him on the back foot at a venue he had never previously visited.
Despite his lack of experience compared to others in the field, the Fortec Motorsport driver enjoyed a productive Friday to lap within seven-tenths of a second of the fastest time, although the close nature of the field meant that he would end up in 19th place on the times.
When Saturday’s qualifying session rolled around, Henry was able to better his Friday time by more than half a second to post the 15th quickest lap with his second fastest lap meaning he would start one spot further back for the opening race.
Given the tight and twisty nature of the circuit, Henry went into race one hoping to make up as much ground as possible and he had worked his way through to twelfth when an incident elsewhere in the field saw the action halted with a handful of minutes left to run.
Lining up in the same position for race two of the weekend, Henry’s hopes of progressing further up the order would end before the race was half a lap old when he was run wide onto the grass on the run down Duffus Dip.
Sliding back onto the circuit at McIntyre’s, Henry was collected by Alba Larsen and forced to retire.
From 15th on the grid for the start of race three, Henry was able to avoid a stricken car ahead that had stalled on the line to immediately climb to the fringes of the top ten. The following laps saw Henry work his way into eighth with two impressive late braking moves into Taylor’s Hairpin before a caution period brought out the safety car for a second time.
A further clash of cars ahead late on saw Henry vault up into the top four to leave him just off the podium, picking up twelve vital points to remain fourth in the standings.
“I knew this weekend would be a struggle with not having seen the circuit before and given that I was still carrying a bit of an injury to my hand from Zandvoort,” he said.
“Red flags in practice on Friday meant I didn’t get any good runs and that led to me being out place in qualifying where I was able to complete my first long run of the weekend.”
“In race one we made good progress but then race two there was nothing I could have done to avoid the DNF. Race three was great fun to come through to fourth and avoid all the drama, and means good points on the board ahead of the next round at Donington Park.”
